Letter to Phil Taylor
Dear Phil,
My name is Annie. I'm a theatre director and a darts fan.
I'm writing because you've inspired me and my company, Unfolding Theatre, to make a new show, called Best in the World.
A couple of years ago, I watched you beat Simon Whitlock to win your 15th World Championship. I found myself wondering, “What is it like to be best in the world at something?” Now, in making this show, I’m on a mission to find out.
I'm writing to ask whether we could interview you as part of our research?
I'd love to talk to you about what it's like to be best in the world. About your hunger to win. About living an ordinary life but achieving something extraordinary. About your keen awareness of the talents of the players around you. About the journey from the first moment of trying to become the best in the world, to how it feels now as you work towards your 16th world title.
The interview would last up to 45 minutes, held when and wherever is convenient for you. I know you're incredibly busy and appreciate that you've got a lot of demands on your time.
Our team includes writer, Carina Rodney, actor, Alex Elliott and myself. We’d like to make a video and/or audio recording of the interview, if you’re happy for us to do so. We can provide you with the questions we’ll be asking in advance if that is helpful.
If you’re available and up for being interviewed, drop me a line on annie@unfoldingtheatre.co.uk with a few suggested dates.
Best in the World will tour the UK in Spring 2012. The show aims to get audiences thinking about how they might become gold medal versions of themselves.
Thank you for your time reading this. And if you want to find out more about us, take a look around our website.
Yours,
Annie
