We, The Crowd

"It was raw, it was from the heart, it was magic."

What does music and football mean in people's lives?

This extraordinary collaboration with Sage Gateshead and Newcastle United Foundation brought together musicians from Royal Northern Sinfonia, West End Voices community choir, young people from CHAT Trust, New Writing North's Young Writers City at Excelsior Academy and children at Hawthorn Primary. (Phew!)

Together they created a piece of music theatre performed at St James' Park on 23 November 2016. Over 50 people played and sang. Their stories were told through 3 stewards, who stand and watch the crowd week in, week out. Ultimately it told stories of togetherness. How football and music forge friendships and bring sometimes very different people together.

We, The Crowd was part of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's Sharing The Stage programme.
