What does belonging mean to you in Peterlee?

In 2025, Unfolding Theatre was commissioned by No More Nowt as part of their Peterlee Place-Based Creativity programme.

Peterlee: The Place to Be is a new co-created project that explores local identity, pride and belonging through the voices of the people who live and work in the town. Beginning with a simple but powerful question, the project invites local people to share memories, lines, stories and reflections; in whatever form feels right.

Through drop-in sessions at Castle Dene Shopping Centre - to be held in early 2026 - these contributions will be gathered and shaped into a short filmed performance by a local musician, capturing Peterlee’s warmth and imagination.

Led by Unfolding Theatre Creative Associate Abigail Lawson, the project brings together individual voices to create a collective portrait of place, connecting everyday experiences to wider ideas about belonging and the future of our towns.
