“The children had a fabulous time today. The storyteller was amazing and totally kept the children engaged.”
Unfolding Theatre was delighted to be invited to co-create three unique stories with children from Epinay School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School (Jarrow) and Westoe Crown Primary School as part of the ‘South Tyneside Doorstep Stories’ project.
During the first week of March we visited the three schools and worked with children to begin creating our stories together.
Families were then invited to book a ‘Doorstep Stories’ visit, which involved a storytelling experience with two Unfolding Theatre performers and the chance for the children to continue using their creativity and imagination to create the stories.
Almost 500 creative engagements took place over the course of this project and over 175 children were involved in the co-creation of the three stories:
You Can Just Be You by Epinay School and Becci Sharrock
Isabella The Pirate by St Joesph’s Catholic Primary School (Jarrow) and Wambui Hardcastle
Sweet Caroline by Westoe Crown Primary School and Alex Elliott
The three stories were premiered to over 90 people at a Family Storytelling event that took place at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word in April.
