“What would an age-friendly world look like to you?”
Celebrating Age launched in summer 2022. The project aimed to promote a positive image of ageing; challenge outdated negative preconceptions, and actively engage older people in their local communities.
During a week of workshops in August, our Creative Associates Alex Elliott and Becci Sharrock, together with the Elders Council of Newcastle, hosted a series of creative workshops that explored the question “what would an age-friendly world look like to you”? Workshops took place at Holy Cross Church Hall and Tree Top Village in Newcastle and a total of 25 over 55s were engaged in conversations.
Stories and insights gathered as part of our co-creation process shaped a new piece of theatre; Just Us. Public performances of Just Us took place in October 2022 to celebrate International Day for Older Persons, as part of ImAGE Festival.
Celebrating Age was commissioned by, and is delivered in partnership with, The Elders Council of Newcastle and is funded by The National Lottery Awards for All England

“Two fine actors relayed vital issues of our lives. From this, a manifesto arose for an imagined (but not impossible – are you listening, Westminster?) community of hope and practical ideals”

A Street Like This is a new production from Unfolding Theatre about the unexpected friendships that arise when something unforeseen happens, changing the way people define themselves forever.
Set – and created - in Sunderland, A Street Like This explores what unifies people in a city, where division exists, and what keeps people apart. What change could happen in a city like Sunderland that reminds us we’ve got more in common than divides us?
